France paralyzed by strike: Thousands in the streets, dozens arrested

(Patria) - A major inter-union strike is being held across France today, with authorities expecting between 600,000 and 900,000 participants. Protests are organized at 250 locations, and serious disruptions have already been recorded in key sectors.

The French Ministry of Interior announced that 99 people have been arrested so far, including 15 in Paris. Clashes broke out in several cities, including Lyon and Nantes, where police used tear gas. In Lyon, a journalist, a demonstrator, and a police officer were injured.

High school students also joined the protests – 75 schools are blocked across the country, while in Marseille, students chanted slogans of solidarity with Palestine. According to police data, about 15,000 people took to the streets in that city, while organizers claim a significantly higher number.

Demonstrators say the goal is to pressure the government of Emmanuel Macron and the new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, demanding new elections and, as they state, an end to the "policy of fiscal injustice".
