Photographer Milomir Kovačević Strašni will open the exhibition "We Only Wanted Peace... (Sarajevo Memories)", on Thursday, at the Franciscan Classical Gymnasium Visoko starting at 8 PM, reports the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).
Kovačević is one of the best photojournalists of today, not only in BiH but also in the former Yugoslavia.
The photographs he is exhibiting in Visoko were taken at anti-war protests in Sarajevo in the spring of 1992, and they do not only represent a chronicle of the time, but the exhibition also aims to point to the individual and collective responsibility for what would later happen in the former Yugoslavia.
Kovačević began working as a photographer at the age of 17 in the University Photo Club CEDUS. From the very beginning, his work has been dedicated to life on the streets, as well as cultural events in Sarajevo.
In the nineties, he became one of the most notable photo chroniclers of the city.
Working for various magazines did not contribute to his work taking on a sensationalist character, nor did his photos have a short shelf life. On the contrary, his work shows an interest in the most diverse themes of the society of that time. From the usual ones, often unnoticed in the routine of everyday life, to those that open up some of the taboo topics of that era. Series of photographs with themes of Međugorje, prisons, flea markets, rock concerts, then Horde zla (fans of FK Sarajevo), graffiti, pioneers, Tito's photos in shop windows, photographs of the last Day of the Republic... are just some of the works for which he became known, reports NAP.
