Foreign Office analysis: British tourists warned of terrorism risk in BiH

The Foreign Office has warned of a high risk of terrorism in European cities, but the level of danger varies from country to country. A large number of tourists will therefore likely choose based on this factor for their annual vacation, and according to the FCO, there are several countries with a very low risk of terrorist attacks, writes the Daily Mail, reports the Patria News Agency.

From Norway to the Netherlands, the British Foreign Office has assessed most of Europe as a place with a general risk of terrorism, advising tourists to be careful where they travel, as attacks could occur even on beaches.

According to the latest update in early April, the FCO website states that around 9,000 British citizens visit Bosnia and Herzegovina every year. Most visits pass without incident.

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) does not cover Bosnia and Herzegovina, so British citizens are advised to obtain health insurance.

Britons have been warned that there is still a risk of unexploded ordnance in BiH, especially in isolated mountainous areas. Floods and landslides in previous years have moved minefields and destroyed some mine warnings, so it is recommended to seek the latest information on the website of the demining center.

Also, Britons have been warned that there is a risk of terrorism in BiH. Attacks can be indiscriminate, the FCO website states, including in places frequented by foreigners.

- On November 18, an attacker shot and killed two BiH soldiers and wounded one in a betting shop in Rajlovac, an area of Sarajevo, north-west of the capital. After leaving the betting shop, the gunman opened fire on a bus, wounding three passengers. BiH authorities have classified this attack as terrorism. The BiH government also treats the attack on April 27, 2015, at a police station in Zvornik as terrorism, Britons were warned.

Pickpockets on public transport

The rate of attacks on foreigners is generally low, but one should be wary of pickpockets in cities and on public transport, especially in areas popular with foreign tourists.
