Fondacija VII and Srebrenica Memorial Center presented exhibition by Lowe, Haviv, Birtley...

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center and Fondacija VII today presented an exhibition aimed at contextualizing the genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995.

The exhibition, curated by renowned Bosnian-Herzegovinian photographer Ziyah Gafić, includes works by Paul Lowe, Ron Haviv, Tony Birtley, Gary Knight, and Rod Nordland, in addition to his own.

"It is a great pleasure for us to have partners and friends in the team behind Fondacija VII. Founded almost 20 years ago by Mr. Haviv and Mr. Knight, the Foundation, through its continuous activities and investment in long-term projects, strives to protect the importance of photography in research and what it means in conveying information. At the opening on July 8th, delegations will be able to view the exhibition, and later it will be open and free for all interested parties," said Azir Osmanović, one of the curators of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

"Treating the Srebrenica genocide as an isolated incident diminishes the nature and context of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which in its reality was a total war for territory, waged with indiscriminate use of firepower against the civilian population, where a palette of crimes against humanity was the modus operandi," added exhibition curator Ziyah Gafić. The exhibition contains 80 photographs and a six-hour video, and will be part of the permanent exhibition of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
