Fojnica's MS&WOOD in ragweed removal campaign: We call on citizens to do the same on private properties

Bosnia and Herzegovina's furniture industry "MS&WOOD" (Majstori i drvo) has once again organized ragweed removal in the area of Fojnica and part of Kiseljak.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Fojnica, this harmful plant was removed along the main road for a length of 14 kilometers where it has its production facilities, while MS&WOOD took full responsibility for the section up to the Fojnica intersection, which is part of the Kiseljak area. The ragweed removal lasted for 14 days. 

- We call on citizens to join the campaign to remove this plant, which is harmful to health, and thus contribute to the well-being of the entire community, especially owners of plots where ragweed grows and spreads, and it is important that we are all aware of this problem - stated MS&WOOD.

Ragweed is considered the biggest enemy of people suffering from allergic diseases, given that its pollen is the strongest pollen allergen. Symptoms of allergy include red eyes, tearing, nasal congestion, itchy nose, sneezing, coughing, difficulty breathing, asthma, and changes in the skin and digestion. 

It is estimated that 10 to 20% of the population in Bosnia and Herzegovina alone is allergic to ragweed. Furthermore, Semberija has the highest concentration of ragweed in Europe. The harmful consequences of ragweed allergy last for about four months a year, during which time those affected experience a significant reduction in physical ability, causing enormous costs and damage to the state and society.

Ragweed has enormous reproductive potential. One plant can produce up to 8,000 seeds that remain in the soil for up to 40 years.
