(Patria) - Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill renaming Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump, the latest in a series of buildings, institutions, government programs, warships, and money that will bear the name of the American president, Reuters reported.
The decision to rename the airport followed Florida's approval last year of a plan to donate property in downtown Miami for the site of Trump's presidential library.
Trump, a native of New York, moved to Florida in 2019. Before that, he lived in a penthouse in Trump Tower, but has since had his primary residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.
Before the name can be changed, a formal request must be submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration, which must then process the change in various flight and navigation map databases, and the signs at the airport must be changed.
Last week, Representative Brian Mast introduced a bill to change the airport's three-letter code from PBI to DJT, representing Trump's initials.
The Treasury Department announced last week that U.S. paper money will bear Trump's signature starting this summer, the first time a sitting president has signed U.S. currency.
Trump's name is also attached to a planned class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreigners, a government website for prescription drugs, and federal savings accounts for children.
In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which Trump filled with allies during his takeover of the board, added Trump's name to the institution.
Trump's name has also been on the building of the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington since December, months after his administration took over the non-profit organization and nearly shut it down.
Earlier this month, a federal arts panel, composed of members appointed by Trump, approved a commemorative gold coin with his likeness, part of a series of coins the U.S. Mint plans to produce to celebrate America's 250th birthday this year.
In February, the White House confirmed that Trump had floated the idea of abandoning funding for a tunnel under the Hudson River in New York in exchange for Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer's support for renaming Washington Dulles Airport and Penn Station in New York after Donald Trump.
