Film 'The Ballad' by Aida Begić is BiH's candidate for the Oscars

(Patria) - The Bosnian-Herzegovinian candidate in the Best International Feature Film category for the Academy Awards is the film 'The Ballad' by director Aida Begić.

The Association of Filmmakers of BiH, as the certified professional organization for Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized the selection, and the commission, which included director Alen Drljević, screenwriter Elma Tataragić, producer Jovan Finzi Marjanović, director and screenwriter Ines Tanović, producer Armin Hadžić, screenwriter Bojana Vidosavljević, director Goran Dujaković, producer Amira Kudumović, director Faruk Lončarević, and screenwriter Asja Krsmanović, decided by vote on the Bosnian-Herzegovinian candidate.

The film 'The Ballad' had its world premiere at this year's Sarajevo Film Festival, in the Competition Program, and was produced by the production company Film House from Sarajevo.

The film 'The Ballad' is the story of Merjem-Meri (30), an unambitious housewife and mother of a daughter, Mile (8), who returns to her parents' house after ten years of marriage. Shortly after returning, Meri realizes she is trapped in a vicious cycle of provincial laws and rules, as well as in the complex relationships between her ambitious mother and spoiled younger brother. Her hope of gaining custody of her daughter diminishes with each passing day as she has no opportunity to find stable employment. The only thing that makes her happy, and for which everyone condemns her, is going to an audition for a film being shot nearby.
