Fikret Bačić lived to see the day the criminals who killed 30 of his family members were arrested

Fikret Bačić, a resident of Zecovi, lost 30 members of his immediate family in his hometown on that fateful July 25, 1992. His mother, brother, wife and two children (13 and 9 years old), niece, nephews, cousins, etc. were executed in front of their family home in Zecovi. 33 of them were taken from house arrest, three managed to survive. He has not found the bones of the murdered to this day.

Fikret's fight for the truth began in 1998, when he contacted judicial bodies, to whom he provided evidence of the crime in Zecovi, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

- I took witnesses to the police in Sanski Most at the time, and I also contacted the BiH Prosecutor's Office. We know the names of the criminals, and the competent authorities know them too, but nothing has been done so far. Those individuals have not been questioned or prosecuted, and I don't know why - Fikret Bačić said a few years ago.

Today, 22 years after the horrific crime that occurred in Zecovi, Fikret Bačić and all the families who lost their loved ones at the time, and more than 150 residents were killed, have lived to see the day when the criminals were arrested.

Fikret Bačić returned to his native Zecovi, where he still lives today.

According to the accounts of survivors and family members of the murdered, on July 25, 1992, the Serbian army surrounded the village of Zecovi. The soldiers then searched houses where women and children were hiding, and then executed them. Most of the murdered civilians were from the Bačić and Horozović families.

In just one house, 29 civilians, women and children, were executed, the oldest of whom was 17 and the youngest two years old.

The crimes in that village were also discussed at the Hague Tribunal, during July 2002, at the trial of Milomir Stakić, who was finally sentenced to 40 years for crimes in Prijedor. At that time, protected witness V, during her testimony in favor of the Prosecution, said that Serbian soldiers killed all the residents they found in houses in the village of Zecovi in July 1992.
