The first international gathering of Fića, a car that was one of the symbols of the former state and the most commonly seen vehicle on Yugoslav roads, will be held in Baščaršija on July 29. The occasion for the Fiat-Fićo Fest is the celebration of the 62nd birthday of this car, which remains the favorite of many even today.
The event is organized by the Association of Fića Car Enthusiasts – a club from Sarajevo, and they announce the participation of a hundred vehicles and drivers. They say the number would be higher because enthusiasts and owners of Fića from all over the world have registered, but they are limited by space and technical conditions.
Fadil Ćerimagić, from the Association of Fića Car Enthusiasts, says that vehicles arriving from Italy, Spain, England, and other countries will also participate in the Fićo Fest.
- The interest is huge because Fićo is still a favorite vehicle for many today. We will have 12 vehicles from our country alone, and we are expecting guests from the region and other European countries. Fićas of all colors, years, and different models, from regular to convertibles, will be on display in Baščaršija - says Ćerimagić.
The Old Town Municipality has supported the event by providing the venue. The vehicles will be exhibited on the plateau above Sebilj and in front of the Baščaršija Mosque, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- People are still emotionally attached to Fića. Every time I drive it, people approach me wanting to take pictures with the car. Fićo is still a big attraction today - said Ćerimagić.
Zastava 750 is the official name of the small car, better known by its nickname Fićo in the former Yugoslavia. Produced under license from Fiat 600, presented in 1955 at the Geneva Motor Show as a symbol of post-war Italian economic progress. A few years earlier, Fiat's chief engineer Dr. Dante Giacosa was tasked with creating a small vehicle that, unlike the legendary Topolino – which he designed back in 1936, would allow comfortable transport for four passengers. Giacosa surpassed himself at the time, creating what many consider the most successful and popular FIAT of all time – the Fiat 600.
One million vehicles were sold in the first five years of production. This car model was produced not only in Italy but also in Argentina, Austria, Spain, and Yugoslavia.
