Feraget: The Memić Case is a systemic attempt to cover up a murder

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered youth Dženan Memić, said after today's hearing that it was all difficult to listen to. Six witnesses testified today.

“This has been going on for a long time, and we will see how much longer it will last,” Memić said. He added that he was essentially satisfied with today's witnesses.  

Lawyer Ifet Feraget today rejected the judge Branko Perić's claim that he was undermining confidence in the judiciary with his statements.

“I have been working for six years to establish confidence in the judiciary. I think the judge was too harsh towards the prosecutors, whose dignity should be respected. This is a case where we have a systemic cover-up of a murder. Another way is that even minor omissions and negligence can lead to an inadequate investigation. Prosecutors have an extremely difficult task; if prosecutors and police officers who are obliged to secure evidence do not do so, and after them, some other prosecutors try to piece together the mosaic, it is difficult. This is an extremely complex case,” Feraget said. 

Lawyer Feraget said that a member of the MUP KS confirmed in today's testimony that the recordings from the Crystal hotel were deleted.

“Recordings for four days were destroyed because they show the potential killer of Dženan Memić and the movement of the vehicle, which will prove to be of decisive importance in the further investigation. When which vehicle arrived, in which direction it went, where it came from, who was coming. It is absolutely impossible for electricity to retroactively delete a recording,” Feraget said. 

Doctor Sandra Zubović also testified today; she was one of the doctors who conducted a team assessment of Alisa Mutap.

“Doctor Vegar Zubović was extremely professional. Sebija Izetbegović does not have the authority to form any assessment teams. Assessments are carried out by experts. It had already been established that Alisa Mutap did not have amnesia and that only a short-term memory lapse that returns was possible. Zubović said that there were no changes in the brain or any pathological changes, so you cannot say that there was a concussion,” Feraget said. 

Nermin Šehović, who was a member of the Ad hoc commission that prepared the report on the actions of the Police Administration of the MUP KS in the Memić case, also appeared as a witness.

Feraget emphasized that in this case there is a “system of conspiracy and a systemic attempt to cover up a murder.”

He said that as a lawyer, he cannot be satisfied because even after six years, there is no answer as to who killed Dženan Memić.

“A more aggressive investigation towards prosecutors and police officers is not being consciously pursued because the evidence would have to be revealed. Witnesses heard cries for help and the dull sound of a bat. It is most likely that Dženan was moved to that location to make the traffic accident seem more credible,” he said.
