Feraget and Memić: We have known for five years what the BiH Prosecutor's Office is doing now

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Attorney Ifet Feraget said after today's hearing on the extension of detention for Hasan Dupovac and Zijad Mutap at the Court of BiH that the power of the media was also emphasized.

“I think the media are not present just like that, but there are reasons why this case has become so known to the public. What is unusual is that from the barren discussions, especially from the defense of the first suspect, we were almost convinced that Atlantis had not fallen. It was close. What is very unusual is that acts of persons against whom a criminal complaint has been filed are being cited. To prove that someone may not be reasonably suspected of a criminal offense, you cite acts of cantonal prosecutors against whom a criminal complaint has been filed precisely for covering up the murder of Dženan Memić. The court will know how to interpret that properly,” said Feraget.

At today's hearing, the attorney of Hasan Dupovac, Ermin Gačanović, mentioned “political mentors of the BiH Prosecutor's Office.”

“I said that the Memić and Dragičević cases will change the political picture. The political picture does not mean that this or that party will come to power. In these five years, we have not learned anything new except that prosecutors, police officers, and doctors tried to cover up a murder. All evidence shows that it was not a traffic accident. After the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH, the Cantonal Court twice issued a verdict that would not be controversial because it is acquittal, but it is controversial for the suspects because the Court states that the Prosecutor's Office did not prove that an accident occurred,” said the attorney of the Memić family.

The basis of suspicion is the existence of circumstances that someone may have committed a criminal offense, says Feraget, adding that if that basis of suspicion exists, a false indictment and proceedings before the Supreme Court and the Cantonal Court do not protect you from the investigation conducted by the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

“The BiH Prosecutor's Office does not want to say that Zijad Mutap and Hasan Dupovac are murderers and that they are the only ones responsible, but it wants to say that there are circumstances indicating that they are connected to obstructions in the investigation related to the case of Dženan Memić. The fact is that this is a serious criminal offense for which a prison sentence of 10 years or more can be imposed. The fact is that failures occurred precisely due to destruction, falsification, hiding, and planting of evidence. That strategy was used to build the false indictment of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office. The fact is that the public became interested in these two cases because of that,” added Feraget.

He emphasized that the judiciary should answer the question “who killed Dženan Memić.”

Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, did not attend today's hearing because he will probably be a witness for the BiH Prosecutor's Office. He briefly commented on the work of the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

“Everything that is happening at the State Prosecutor's Office, we have known for five years. Dalida Burzić and Vahid Ćosić had those pieces of evidence, everyone had them, now the BiH Prosecutor's Office is working. It bothers me when they say this is politics, politics did do this, but I am not in politics. What bothered me today is that Mirsad Đelilović, the chief of the Center Police Station, came to support Hasan Dupovac in uniform with an official vehicle during working hours. I will write a letter to the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton asking how this can happen, and they were good buddies, maybe he is involved too,” said Memić.
