(Patria) - Federal judge Aileen Cannon today dismissed the case that Special Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice Jack Smith is leading against former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his handling of classified state documents, citing, as she stated, the unlawful appointment of the prosecutor.
The proceedings in Florida were considered the most dangerous for Trump among the four criminal cases pending against him.
Cannon granted the defense motion to dismiss the case, which argued that Smith was unconstitutionally appointed, an argument he strongly rejected at a hearing last month.
Neither Smith's prosecution team nor Trump's defense have responded to requests for comment at this time.
Cannon was appointed as a judge during the Trump administration.
