FBI warns: Russia is actively interfering in US presidential elections

(Patria) - FBI Director Christopher Wray warned on Thursday that Russia has interfered in the upcoming US presidential elections with disinformation aimed at undermining the democratic candidate Joe Biden, as well as with the intention of shaking the trust of American citizens in the overall electoral process.

During a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee, Wray also said that official Moscow is seeking to neutralize the 'anti-Russian American establishment', and that the FBI has witnessed 'very active Russian efforts to influence our elections in 2020' through social media, state media, and proxies.    

The FBI Director claims that he is most concerned about 'persistent disinformation attacks' which he says could shake confidence in the final outcome of the elections, emphasizing that the FBI will continue to work to block such attempts.

The FBI Director's testimony followed a warning from the Director of National Counterintelligence and Security Center on August 7 that Russia, China, and Iran are attempting to interfere in the November elections.  

He says that the FBI is so active in monitoring Chinese efforts to obtain American technology and other sensitive information that it opens a new counterintelligence investigation related to China 'every 10 hours', reports the British Guardian.

The FBI is also conducting multiple investigations into violent domestic extremists, most of which concern white supremacist groups.
