European Council extends restrictive measures framework due to the situation in BiH: Will EU sanctions be imposed on BiH politicians?

(Patria) - The European Council today decided to extend the restrictive measures framework concerning the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina for another two years, until March 31, 2026, it was announced from Brussels.

The European Union will therefore retain the option to impose targeted restrictive measures on individuals or entities undermining the sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order, and international subjectivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Restrictive measures may also be imposed against those who seriously jeopardize the security situation in the country, or undermine the Dayton/Paris General Framework Agreement for Peace.

Restrictive measures under this framework consist of asset freezes, prohibition on making funds available, and travel bans to the EU for natural persons.

It should be noted that the EU has not yet imposed restrictions on BiH officials, although some European parliamentarians have requested them due to the situation in BiH.

However, at the same time as the European Council made the decision to approve accession negotiations for BiH, a decision was made to extend the restrictive measures.
