European Parliamentarians to Check Whether Croatian Police Beat Migrants

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Representatives of the European Parliament from the Greens group have announced a visit to the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the situation following numerous allegations that Croatia violates human rights when it comes to treating migrants.

All EU member states tacitly support violations of migrants' human rights at the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the delegation of MEPs from the Greens group assessed in a conversation with Croatian Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović.

Belgian delegation member Saskia Bricmont assessed that the situation at the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is explained by the fact that the EU does not have a real common asylum and migration policy.

German MEP Erik Marquardt believes that all EU member states are to blame for the situation at the Croatian border and noted that the delegation is not there “to blame the Croatian police,” because the situation is “a result of pressure from the entire Union.”

“Border states like Croatia, Greece and Italy have to deal with the arrivals of migrants, and other EU member states should share the responsibility, which is not the case today,” believes MEP from the Netherlands Tineke Strik.

Minister Božinović rejected the allegations of human rights violations and emphasized that he told the Greens delegation that Croatia protects the border in accordance with the law and at the same time treats humanely all those who truly need help.
