European Parliament marks four years of Russian war against Ukraine with extraordinary session

(Patria) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the European Parliament today at an extraordinary plenary session, exactly four years after the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Parliament announced.

The session begins at 10:15 AM, and President Zelensky will address the MEPs from Kyiv. Following his address, a debate will be held on the latest developments in the Russian aggression and on the European contribution to a just peace and long-term security for Ukraine. A vote on the resolution is planned for 11:30 AM.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola stated that today's session will send an "important signal" of the European Union's unwavering commitment to relations with Ukraine.

Since February 2022, the European Union and the European Parliament have continuously provided support to Ukraine – through condemnation of Russian aggression, imposition of sanctions, and financial, political, military, and humanitarian aid. On February 11, the Parliament also approved an EU loan of 90 billion euros.

On several occasions, the Parliament has affirmed its solidarity and close partnership with Ukraine. This includes the opening of a permanent office of the European Parliament in Kyiv in September 2025, visits by President Metsola to Kyiv and the Verkhovna Rada, as well as previous addresses by President Zelensky to MEPs.

The European Parliament strongly supports Ukraine's efforts on its path to EU membership. MEPs have praised the exceptional reforms implemented in extremely difficult circumstances and called on the Ukrainian authorities to continue at the same pace, as well as on the European Commission to open negotiation clusters to accelerate the accession process to the European Union.
