European Union preparing precise plans for troop deployment in Ukraine

(Patria) - The European Union is preparing "very precise plans“ for the multinational deployment of troops in Ukraine, as part of post-conflict security guarantees, which will have the support of American capacities, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the Financial Times, published on Sunday.

„President Trump assured us that there would be an American presence as part of this arrangement,“ said von der Leyen, adding that this was „very clear and confirmed multiple times“.

According to the report, the deployment could include tens of thousands of European soldiers, with US support in the form of command and control systems, intelligence, and surveillance capabilities.

This agreement, it is stated, was reached at a meeting between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and senior European leaders last month.

Further consultations on Ukraine are expected on Thursday in Paris, where, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, key European leaders will gather, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and Ursula von der Leyen, FT reports, citing sources among diplomats familiar with the plans.
