The European Commission's Plant Health Department is expected to discuss today the possibilities of overcoming obstacles that still prevent Bosnia and Herzegovina from exporting potatoes to the European Union market, the BiH news agency Patria has learned.
Sources from the European Commission told the Patria agency that the Commission will most likely ask BiH to provide adequate evidence that it controls potato tuber disease, and that at today's or some subsequent meeting, by presenting evidence, it will sufficiently convince the Commission and member states that this disease does not exist in BiH or that it successfully controls the disease.
BiH has still not received the green light for potato exports to the EU, which represents a major problem for BiH farmers, and the problem has become particularly pronounced after neighboring Croatia became an EU member in mid-2013, after which BiH largely lost its market there, Patria writes.
