Evo Morales calls for breaking diplomatic ties with Israel

(Patria) - Former Bolivian president and leader of the country's ruling party Evo Morales has called on his successor to break diplomatic ties with Israel due to crimes against the Palestinian people.

The leader of the Movement for Socialism called on current President Luis Arce to break ties with Israel, as Bolivia cannot remain silent "in the face of crimes against humanity," Morales wrote on X.

"Bolivia cannot remain silent in the face of crimes against humanity that Israel is committing against the Palestinian people. I ask President Arce, in the name of the dignity and solidarity of our people, to break diplomatic relations with Israel, which were re-established by the coup government in 2019," Morales wrote.

Let us recall that left-wing president Morales broke diplomatic relations with Israel in 2009, following Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip.

Ten years later, after Morales was removed from power by the military with the help of Jeanine Áñez, Bolivia re-established diplomatic relations with Israel.

Arce took office in November 2020, and Áñez received a ten-year prison sentence two years later for unconstitutional actions. A few days ago, another left-wing Latin American president spoke about breaking diplomatic ties with Israel. Colombian President Gustavo Petro said it was an option, following a heated debate on social media with the Israeli ambassador in Bogota.
