After meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Milan to visit Silvio Berlusconi, his old friend under house arrest for tax evasion, media reported, according to the BH News Agency Patria. 

The Russian president had a 'tight schedule', so he couldn't see his friend before 2 AM. Namely, on the same evening, he met with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko and was four hours late for the meeting with Merkel.

Media captured a black limousine arriving to pick him up in front of the building where the former Italian prime minister lives before dawn, and Berlusconi waved to him from the entrance with a smile on his face.

Although house arrest rules stipulate that Berlusconi can only leave his suburban villa in 'exceptional circumstances', and must return by 11 PM, this time the court allowed him to stay until half past three in the morning.

Berlusconi claims he had to leave due to an EU 'conspiracy'

'Putin was only free around half past one in the morning, as the meetings with European leaders dragged on. Although it was late, Berlusconi did not want to miss the opportunity to apologize,' said an unnamed source.

Putin has attended parties at Berlusconi's estate in Sardinia multiple times, and reciprocated the hospitality by organizing a joint vacation at his summer residence on the Black Sea coast, which has 20 rooms. Last year, Putin visited Berlusconi at his residence in Rome, where he was photographed throwing a ball to Duda, a poodle belonging to the former prime minister's girlfriend.

Dinner with Putin began after midnight at Berlusconi's apartment in the center of Milan, and the former Italian prime minister's three daughters and two sons were also present. The menu included pasta with white truffles, and tiramisu was served at the end.
