Eurostat: Fuel prices in the European Union rose by more than 20 percent in April

(Patria) - Prices of fuels and lubricants in the European Union rose by 20.8 percent year-on-year in April, further accelerating from a 12.9 percent increase in March, Eurostat announced.

According to current data, prices of fuels and lubricants increased in all EU member states in April, with 15 countries reporting an increase of more than 20 percent.

The largest year-on-year price increase was recorded in Luxembourg (33.8 percent), France and Sweden (29.3 percent each), Latvia (28.1 percent), and Bulgaria (27.8 percent). The smallest price increase was registered in Hungary (1.5 percent), Poland (8.8 percent), and Italy (12.9 percent).

Diesel prices rose by 33.7 percent year-on-year, and gasoline prices by 13.6 percent in April, while on a monthly basis, the increase was 7.9 percent for diesel and 2.4 percent for gasoline, according to Eurostat.

Looking at EU member states, Slovenia (23.5 percent), Bulgaria (19.5 percent), and Cyprus (18 percent) reported the largest monthly increase in diesel prices, while Poland (1.9 percent), Romania (2.3 percent), and Bulgaria (2.6 percent) reported the smallest.

Gasoline prices increased the most month-on-month in Slovenia (12.9 percent), while Romania, Spain, and Poland reported price decreases compared to March.
