EUFOR marks twelfth anniversary of helicopter crash

(Patria) - The twelfth anniversary of the helicopter crash in which eleven EUFOR members from the Republic of North Macedonia lost their lives was marked at Butmir base. The military helicopter that was returning soldiers from the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina crashed on January 12, 2008, near Skopje, which was its final destination. All 11 persons who were
on board the helicopter died in this tragedy.

EUFOR Commander Major General Reinhard Trischak and the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia, Ekrem Ebibi, took part in this commemoration. During the ceremony, EUFOR soldiers formed a guard of honor beside the monument to the fallen. Eleven candles were lit, symbolizing the lost lives. The Republic of North Macedonia is one of five non-European Union countries participating in the EUFOR mission.
