(Patria) - The possible sending of North Korean soldiers to fight on the Russian side in Ukraine shows that Moscow desperately needs help from any side, the European Commission (EC) assessed yesterday.
- If reports of sending North Korean soldiers to assist Russia in the attack on Ukraine are confirmed, it will be a new level of escalation and a significant increase in their military cooperation - said EC spokesperson Peter Stano.
Stano assessed that this is a signal that Russia is in a desperate situation, willing to accept any help it can get.
- It also shows that Russia is absolutely not interested in peace and is determined to escalate its illegal war against Ukraine - Stano added.
The South Korean intelligence agency announced last Friday that North Korea had sent 1,500 special forces members to the Russian Far East for training and acclimatization in local military bases, and that they would likely be deployed to fight in the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused North Korea on Thursday of providing its officers to Russia and preparing to send 10,000 soldiers to assist Moscow in the war in Ukraine.
Russia and North Korea deny claims of sending North Korean military personnel to help Russia against Ukraine.
