(Patria) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the EU has received the latest US proposal regarding trade negotiations, but did not disclose details. She stated that the EU is ready for an agreement, but also for the possibility that one may not be reached.
The deadline set by US President Donald Trump for reaching an agreement expires on July 9. If no deal is reached, additional tariffs on imports from the EU could double – from 10 to 20 percent.
The EU is already suffering from US tariffs on cars, steel and aluminum, and tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceutical products could potentially follow.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he wants a quick agreement, but not under unbalanced conditions – stating that the EU will, if necessary, respond in kind.
