EU to fund specializations for nearly 200 doctors from Croatia, healthcare system in BiH deteriorating

The European Union will pay for specializations for nearly 200 doctors from smaller Croatian health centers, in order to improve healthcare services in all parts of Croatia, confirmed the Minister of Health, Milan Kujundžić, for HRT.

“197 specializations have been selected. We are happy that candidates have applied and that pediatrics, gynecology, family medicine, and radiology will be filled throughout Croatia in deprived areas, so that on one hand, young doctors will get a specialization, and on the other hand, Croatians, regardless of where they live, will have high-quality healthcare,” said the minister.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is also facing the problem of a shortage of doctors. Qualified doctors are leaving BiH due to poor working conditions in the country, but also due to the strong influence of politics on the medical profession. However, the authorities in BiH are doing nothing to change this situation. Hundreds of Sarajevo citizens yesterday expressed support for doctors at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, after more than 40 doctors left the largest healthcare institution in BiH in just one year due to the poor management of KCUS by the new administration.

SDP Federal MP Damir Mašić, who also supported the doctors from KCUS yesterday, told reporters that in Sarajevo, due to poor management of the healthcare system, not only doctors are endangered, but also citizens who cannot receive quality services due to the poor state of healthcare.
