(Patria) – Alexander Lukashenko is not the legitimate president of Belarus, representatives of the European Union stated, claiming that his hasty inauguration on Wednesday goes against the will of the Belarusian people.
- The so-called inauguration... and the new term claimed by Alexander Lukashenko lack democratic legitimacy, the statement of the EU 27 reads.
The EU leadership explains that the 'inauguration was held against the will of large parts of the Belarusian population, as conveyed through numerous peaceful protests since the elections, and only serves to further deepen the political crisis in Belarus', Reuters reports.
