Erdogan: UN Security Council increasingly ineffective, failed its duty once again

(Patria) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fiercely criticized the UN Security Council on Wednesday for failing to adopt a resolution calling for a cessation of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

Erdogan wrote on social media platform X that Turkey's efforts to de-escalate the situation were hampered by the "collective punishment of Palestinians" through Israeli airstrikes and the deployment of American aircraft carriers to the region.

"The UN Security Council, which is increasingly ineffective, has once again failed its duty," Erdogan said.

"Western countries have done nothing but add fuel to the fire," he added, while also criticizing the media's "biased" reporting on the conflict.

Erdogan said on Tuesday evening that the attack on a hospital in Gaza was an example that "Israeli attacks violate the most basic human rights." Israel blamed Palestinian militants for the attack.

On Wednesday, he said it could be considered genocide, using the term for the first time since the conflict began, but this time he did not explicitly state that Israel carried out the attack.
