(Patria) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on Sunday with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa in a phone call about the latest events in Syria, Erdogan's office announced, Reuters reports.
In the phone call, which took place after Syria and the main Kurdish military forces reached a broad agreement to place Kurdish civilian and military authorities under the control of the central government, Erdogan told al-Sharaa that Ankara's support for Damascus, especially in the fight against terrorism, will continue, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.
Erdogan also told al-Sharaa that the "complete elimination of terrorism from Syrian territory is necessary for both Syria and the entire region".
