(Patria) - Turkey expects nothing more from the European Union (EU), at whose doors it has been waiting for 40 years, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today.
- We have fulfilled all the promises we made to the EU, but they have fulfilled almost none - Erdogan said at the inaugural session of the Turkish parliament.
He added that he will not tolerate new demands or conditions in the accession process.
- If they do not withdraw regarding some injustices such as the introduction of visas, which they use as latent sanctions, if they do not correct their mistakes... they will completely lose the right to express political, social, economic, and military expectations from our side.
If the EU intends to break the accession process that exists only on paper, that will be their decision - Erdogan stated.
The Turkish president is also angry about the new ruling by the European Court of Human Rights against Turkey this week.
The court accused him of convicting a man for belonging to a terrorist organization solely on the basis of his use of the ByLock encrypted messaging application.
Ankara considers ByLock to be the communication tool of the leaders of the failed coup in 2016, which killed 250 people, followed by unprecedented mass arrests and purges in modern Turkish history.
The Turkish government attributed the coup to the Feto organization, Imam Fethullah Gulen, who was once Erdogan's ally.
- The decision of the European Court of Human Rights is the last straw. Members of the terrorist organization and their supporters who are encouraged by this decision should not hope in vain.
That decision will bring no relief to the criminal members of Feto. Turkey will not back down in the fight against this gang of traitors. It will not allow any return to the past - Erdogan said.
