Gülen moved to Pennsylvania in 1999, reportedly for health reasons, and from there led his Hizmet movement, which once ran 4,000 schools in Turkey and 500 worldwide.

Gülen, whose Turkish citizenship was revoked in 2017, died in a hospital in the US on Sunday.

The split between Gülen and Erdogan occurred in 2013, and three years later, the Turkish strongman accused him of organizing a coup, calling Hizmet the "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization" (FETO).

Erdogan told his party members yesterday that the fight will be decisively continued "until FETO is completely eradicated".
