(Patria) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that Israeli attacks on Iran are pushing the Middle East towards "complete catastrophe," emphasizing that the ultimate goal of these strikes is to sabotage the upcoming nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
– Israel is now leading the region to the brink of complete catastrophe by attacking Iran, our neighbor – Erdogan stated at the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, which is being held amidst rising tensions between Tel Aviv and Tehran.
The Turkish leader called on all countries that have influence on Israel not to fall for "poisonous rhetoric" and to advocate for de-escalation through dialogue. At the same time, he appealed to Muslim countries to adopt joint, punitive measures against Israel, based on international law and UN resolutions.
Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, also spoke sharply, particularly emphasizing that the Israeli attack on Iran on June 13th brought the entire region to the brink of chaos.
– The region has a problem with Israel – Fidan said, reminding that Israel is simultaneously attacking Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. He called on Islamic countries for unity and joint action against Israeli aggression.
According to information from the Middle East Eye portal, Israeli attacks without evidence of an immediate Iranian nuclear threat have also caused concern in Turkey, where the possibility of it becoming a target itself is increasingly mentioned, despite being a NATO member.
Although Iran and Turkey have historically been regional rivals, the current escalation is changing the political dynamics – and the Turkish public, according to numerous polls, is increasingly expressing fear due to the possibility of the conflict spreading.
