Epilogue of the Terrorist Attack in Turkey: Four Dead and 14 Wounded, Two Attackers 'Neutralised'

(Patria) - Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that four people were killed and 14 wounded in a terrorist attack on the premises of the Turkish aerospace and defence company TUSAS in the suburbs of Ankara.

Yerlikaya stated that two suspects in the attack - one man and one woman - were "neutralised", and added that three of the wounded are in serious condition, reports RFE/RL.

"Our fight will continue decisively until the last terrorist is neutralised," Yerlikaya added in a post on X.

It is not clear whether the Turkish interior minister's statement means that only two people were involved in the incident or if there were more.

- We have four martyrs. We have 14 wounded. I condemn this heinous terrorist attack and wish mercy for our martyrs - said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan.

TUSAS, among other projects, designs, produces and assembles Turkey's first fighter jet KAAN, civilian aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and other defence, industrial and space systems.

This company is authorised to produce US-designed F-16 fighter jets. It also works on modernising older aircraft for the Turkish military.

The two main owners are the Turkish Armed Forces and the civilian branch of the Turkish government tasked with improving defence capabilities and managing military procurement.

It is not clear who might be behind the attack. Kurdish militants, the group known as the "Islamic State" and left-wing extremists have carried out attacks in the country in the past.

Private Turkish television NTV reported that a group of attackers arrived at the entrance to the complex in a taxi during a security personnel shift change.

At least one of the attackers detonated a bomb, while the other attackers managed to enter the complex. Earlier, media reported that an explosion followed by gunfire was heard in the complex.

Security forces, ambulances and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Employees at the factory were taken to a safe area, reported HaberTurk television.

The office of the chief public prosecutor in Ankara has launched an investigation into the attack, according to Yilmaz Tunc, Turkey's Minister of Justice.

A post on X states that the deputy chief public prosecutor, along with eight other prosecutors, are working on the case.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that "NATO stands with our ally Turkey".

"We strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms and are closely following developments," Rutte said.

A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry described the attack as "deeply shocking" and said that Germany condemns "all forms of terrorism in the strongest possible terms".
