EPBiH interested in purchasing shares of Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebišnjica

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Taking into account the initiative of the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, Fadil Novalić, and acting upon it, JP Elektroprivreda BiH expresses interest and readiness to purchase shares of the company Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebišnjica from the mixed holding Elektroprivreda RS, which owns 65 percent of the company's shares.

JP Elektroprivreda BiH bases its readiness to purchase shares of Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebišnjica on the necessity of preserving the energy independence and stability of the BiH power system, which would be seriously threatened by the "alienation" of significant production capacities. The consequence of such a scenario would also be the inevitable economic collapse of BiH.

The readiness of JP Elektroprivreda BiH to purchase shares of Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebišnjica is in line with the company's strategic commitment to increasing the share of renewable energy sources in electricity production within its production portfolio and fulfilling the obligations undertaken by the state of BiH as a signatory to the Energy Community Treaty. In addition to the planned construction of new facilities, JP Elektroprivreda BiH has publicly announced its interest in acquiring or purchasing projects under development or completed production facilities, by sending invitations to interested parties, with the aim of increasing capacities from renewable sources.

Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebišnjica, with facilities Trebinje 1 and 2, Čapljina, and part of HE Dubrovnik (Croatia), operated as part of Elektroprivreda BiH from their commissioning (successively in the period 1965-1981) until 1992, and Elektroprivreda BiH financed their construction. Since 1992, Hydroelectric Power Plants Trebinje 1 and 2, with a total installed capacity of 176 MW and an average annual production of 384 to 434 GWh of electricity, have been part of the mixed holding Elektroprivreda RS.

Hydroelectric Power Plant Dubrovnik from the Trebišnjica river basin is located in Croatia, and its production, which annually averages over 1160 GWh, is distributed between Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP) and the Elektroprivreda RS holding, to which more than 75 percent of the produced electricity belongs in the distribution. Since 1992, HE Čapljina has operated as part of Elektroprivreda HZHB.
