Emir Škaljo in police uniform attacked a 37-year-old and his son, fired a pistol, damaged three cars

(Patria) - On July 20, 2023, at 19:45 hours, in Edhem Eke Džubur Street, Ilidža municipality, police officers of the Ilidža Police Station deprived E.Š. of his liberty, born in 1986 in Zenica, residing in Sarajevo, due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offenses of: Causing General Danger, Unauthorized Possession of Weapons or Explosive Substances, Damage to Another's Property, Grievous Bodily Harm, and Minor Bodily Harm /Article 323, Paragraph 1; Article 371, Paragraph 1; Article 293, Paragraph 1; Article 172, Paragraph 1; and Article 173, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina/.

As Patria learns, the arrested individual is Emir Škaljo, a border police officer who was in his official uniform and fired a pistol. It is still being determined whether the shots were fired from a service pistol.

Previously, the Ilidža Police Station received a report that a physical altercation involving several persons and the use of firearms had occurred in Edhem Eke Džubur Street. Upon arriving at the scene, it was established that the suspect, without any provocation, engaged in a conflict with two individuals, using physical force and pepper spray, thereby inflicting grievous bodily harm on 37-year-old M.K., while a minor sustained minor bodily injuries.

Both individuals received first aid from the Emergency Medical Service team and were transferred to the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo for further treatment. Additionally, the suspect E.Š. used a firearm, firing one shot from a pistol, which did not result in any injuries, but caused material damage to three parked motor vehicles using suitable objects.

Based on a warrant from the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, a search was conducted of the apartment and garage used by the suspect, where the following items were found and seized:

- two pistols with accompanying magazines and 30 rounds,

- 79 rounds of various calibers, and

- parts of an automatic rifle.

The duty prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton was informed, and the 37-year-old was handed over to the Detention Facilities for Persons Deprived of Liberty of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton. Police officers of the Police Administration continue working on documenting these criminal offenses.

Škaljo has been previously known for misconduct but has so far avoided significant sanctions in the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Škaljo was close to the former director of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zoran Galić. However, the new director, Mirko Kuprešaković, should finally take all legally prescribed measures and remove Škaljo from service because he damages the reputation of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
