(Patria) - Elon Musk, entrepreneur and billionaire, called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to resign after a car attack at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg.
Musk made the statement on social media, criticizing Scholz as an "incompetent fool".
In the incident, a car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market, resulting in at least two fatalities and dozens of serious and minor injuries. News agencies report that the driver has been apprehended and that between 60 and 80 people were injured in the incident, Reuters reported.
City spokesperson Michael Reif expressed his belief that the act was intentional, describing the scenes as "terrible" and confirming numerous injuries. Reif stated: "I have information that a car drove into the visitors of the Christmas market, but I cannot yet say from which direction or how far."
Chancellor Olaf Scholz commented on the incident, stating that "the news suggests something bad" and said his thoughts are with "the victims and their families".
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated last month that there were no specific threats to Christmas markets this year, but advised caution. This incident is reminiscent of the tragic event of December 19, 2016, when an Islamic extremist drove a car into a crowd at a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 13 people and injuring many.
