Elon Musk appeared via video link at a campaign event for Germany's far-right party

(Patria) - Elon Musk appeared during the election campaign of Alternative for Germany (AfD) on Saturday in Halle, eastern Germany, giving support to the far-right party for the second time in two weeks.

Addressing a hall of 4,500 people alongside party leader Alice Weidel, Musk spoke via live video link about preserving German culture and protecting the German people.

"It is good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some kind of multiculturalism that dilutes everything," Musk said, Reuters reported.

Last week, Musk caused alarm after making a gesture that was compared online to a Nazi salute during the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, he said that "children should not be blamed for the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents," referring to Germany's Nazi past.

"There is too much focus on past guilt, and we need to move beyond that," he said.

Musk, who spoke about the suppression of free speech under the German government, had previously attacked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the social network X.

Scholz said on Tuesday that he does not support freedom of speech when it comes to far-right views.

Musk advocated for voting for the far-right, saying: "I am very excited about the AfD, I think you are truly Germany's best hope, fighting for Germany's great future".

Weidel thanked him and said that Republicans are making America great again and urged her supporters to make Germany great again.

Earlier this month, Musk hosted Weidel for an interview on X.

Despite the winter weather, anti-far-right activists took to the streets on Saturday, with about 100,000 gathered around Berlin's Brandenburg Gate and up to 20,000 in Cologne.
