Elektroprivreda BiH did not cause an ecological disaster on Jablanica Lake

The period from September to the end of last year, as well as January 2017, are characterized as hydrologically extremely dry periods, which had a direct impact on the state of natural water inflows in the Neretva River basin, as well as on the state of water reserves in the Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant accumulation, it was announced from Elektroprivreda.

- JP Elektroprivreda BiH, regardless of these circumstances, has been ensuring the regular supply of electricity to customers, but also continuously ensuring the prescribed discharge of water downstream from its accumulations. Due to very low temperatures in January this year and the need to secure the necessary quantities of electricity, the level of the Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant accumulation has dropped. However, even in such circumstances, the prescribed discharge of water has not been jeopardized, nor has there been an enormous emptying of the accumulation for purposes other than meeting the needs of the power system.

Therefore, by ensuring the prescribed discharge of water downstream from the Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant accumulation, as well as downstream from the Grabovica and Salakovac Hydroelectric Power Plant accumulations, JP Elektroprivreda BiH did not cause an ecological disaster.

Favorable hydrological developments in the last few days have resulted in an increase in the level of the Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant accumulation by 5 meters. Further increase in the level is expected in the coming period. 

Similar hydrological conditions were also characteristic of 2012. In that period as well, the activities of JP Elektroprivreda BiH did not jeopardize the flora and fauna of Jablanica Lake, i.e., the fish stock was fully preserved - stated Elektroprivreda.
