Explosion during exam kills ten people

At least 10 people were killed today in an explosion at a teacher training center in northwestern Nigeria, a student said, who believes the attack was carried out by two "suicide" women, reports the bh. news agency Patria. 

The explosion occurred during an exam at this institution in the city of Kintagora, about 150 kilometers northwest of Minna, the capital of Niger State.

This incident occurred just two days after a bombing attack at a boys' school in Potiskum, Yobe State (in the northeast), which killed about fifty students and was attributed to the Islamist group Boko Haram.

Niger State police spokesperson Ibrahim Gambari told AFP news agency that the explosion occurred at a training center in Kontagora and specified that police officers were dispatched to the scene, not providing casualty figures at the time.

Mary Okafor, a student who was at the scene, told AFP that "at least 10 students were killed and many were injured." According to her, the attack happened while students were taking their end-of-semester exams.

- We saw bodies on the ground, between the library and the women's department. Among the bodies, two were women, we think they were bombers - she said.

The dead and injured "were taken to the city's general hospital," the student specified. "They asked us all to leave the school, and the city authorities requested that all schools in the city be closed." Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is a sin" in the Hausa language, has carried out numerous attacks on educational institutions since the beginning of the insurgency, which has killed more than 10,000 people in five years.

Most of the Islamist violence is concentrated in the northeast of the country, the group's historical stronghold. Niger State, bordering Abuja, west of the main federal capital, has been relatively spared until now.
