SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that six people were killed and 53 injured in an explosion on Istanbul's Istiklal Street.
- I offer my prayers for the brothers killed in the bombing on Istiklal Street that occurred today at 4:20 PM, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured - announced the Turkish president, who addressed the nation live via TV.
He assured the Turkish people that those responsible for the incident on Istiklal Street would be adequately punished.
He added that it would be wrong to say with certainty that it was terrorism, but the initial information indicates that it smells of terrorism. He also added that initial observations and information from the field suggest that a woman played a role in it.
- The efforts of those who want to take over Turkey and the Turkish people through terrorism have not and will not succeed - the Turkish president stated.
The explosion occurred around 4:20 PM local time, on Taksim Istiklal Street, in the Beyoglu district. Police, medical, fire, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene.
