(Patria) - An explosion and fire occurred at a chemical plant in Tarragona, Spain. The Catalan Civil Protection urged the local population to stay indoors and not go out into the streets.
El Pais reports that the civil service is asking residents of Tarragona, Salou, Vilaseca, Reus, Constanti, El Morell, and La Canonja to stay in their homes.
A total of 300,000 people are affected.
According to initial reports, firefighters state that the incident involved a propylene explosion.
It is not yet known if there are any injuries. Nine fire crews have been dispatched to the scene. Rail traffic passing through these areas has been stopped, reports Index.
