Explosion in front of Ukrainian parliament: At least 12 people injured in clashes with police

Ten people were injured in an explosion in front of the parliament building in Kyiv during clashes between police and demonstrators dissatisfied with the adoption of a draft controversial law granting the pro-Russian east greater autonomy, reports the Patria News Agency.

Several people covered in blood, including police officers and, it seemed, journalists, lay on the ground in front of the parliament building, an AFP correspondent reported after a powerful explosion echoed.

Eyewitnesses at the scene mentioned that it was not a harmless explosion, as shrapnel damaged the glass in the windows on the second floor of the parliament.

Citizens on social networks state that at least 100 people were injured. The person responsible for throwing the explosive device has reportedly been arrested.

Shortly before that, clashes broke out between law enforcement forces and demonstrators, after the parliament adopted a reform granting greater autonomy to the separatist east, where a war is ongoing, writes Index.
