An explosive device detonated on Friday in the Salakovac tunnel near Mostar was most likely a pyrotechnic device, police confirmed.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton confirmed to the BiH news agency Patria that an explosion occurred in the Salakovac tunnel. Police patrols quickly secured the entire area. There were no injuries.
The explosion was detonated at the moment the Chief of Staff of the BiH Armed Forces, Anto Jeleč, was passing through the tunnel, and the device was detonated right in front of his vehicle.
Police could not provide further information. It is still not possible to say whether the explosion was intentionally directed at Jeleč's vehicle, or if the Chief of Staff happened to be there by chance at the moment of the explosion.
SIPA Director Perica Stanić stated for Patria that SIPA still does not have detailed information about what happened in Salakovac.
The scene is being processed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton and the Prosecutor's Office.
- It has not yet been determined what it was. SIPA will go to the scene if the prosecutor says the act falls under the jurisdiction of the state prosecutor, Stanić told NAP.
Traffic through the tunnel has been normalized.
