At least five people were killed in a car bomb attack near the famous Shiite shrine of Sayeda Zeinab, south of Damascus, the official Syrian agency Sana announced. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that at least 8 people were killed, reports the Patria News Agency.
Sana states that the vehicle exploded at the entrance to the shrine, which is revered by Shiite Muslims worldwide as it contains the grave of the Prophet Muhammad's granddaughter.
On February 21 of this year, 134 people, including 97 civilians, were killed in a double suicide attack 400 meters from the shrine. The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for that attack. Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, more than 270,000 people have been killed, writes Index.
