SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić emphasized today that Serbia is fully committed to its European path and that the goal is full membership in the EU, stating that the EU is by far the largest investor and trade partner of Serbia.
Vučić, after talks with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, said that the citizens of Serbia should know that this is not just an emotional issue, but a matter of reason and values.
He reminded that last year's trade exchange with the EU amounted to 31 billion euros, and services trade to 37 billion euros.
According to him, the EU accounts for more than 60 percent of total trade.
Vučić conveyed that in the first four months of this year, trade increased by 33 percent and reached 9.1 billion euros, and it is estimated that it will exceed 50 billion euros in the next three years.
This speaks to the importance of the EU, its member states, the factories they are building in our country, the exports we achieve, and the import of goods. The largest export and import we have is with the EU. The EU is by far the largest investor in our country with a 67 percent share,” he said.
He stressed that citizens should know this, and that it must be fair and show respect for the money and for everything the EU has done here.
“Thank you for the structural and substantive changes in the country,” he said.
Vučić particularly welcomed Michel to Serbia and emphasized that he is not saying this for courtesy reasons, but because he sincerely believes and feels that his visit is very important for the future of the country at this moment.
