B&H's economy exports most to Croatia, Germany, Serbia, and imports from Italy, Serbia, Germany

(Patria) - Data on Bosnia and Herzegovina's foreign trade for the first half of 2022 show that imports are still significantly higher than exports. 

Total trade in the first half of 2022 amounted to 22.79 billion KM. The value of exported goods was 9.09 billion KM, and the value of imported goods was 13.7 billion KM, resulting in a foreign trade deficit of 4.61 billion KM.

The main characteristics of foreign trade in goods for the period January – June 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 were the growth of total foreign trade of B&H (41.5%), growth of imports (42.5%) and growth of exports
(39.9%), and growth of the foreign trade deficit (47.8%). In the same period, import coverage by exports decreased by 1.3% and amounts to 66.3%.

The European Union remains the main foreign trade partner of B&H, participating with 63.1% in the total volume of trade, while the countries signatories to the "CEFTA 2006" Agreement participate with 14.9%, and other countries with 22%.

Exports to EU countries amounted to 6.71 billion KM, which is 39% more than in the same period last year, while imports amounted to 7.66 billion KM, or 31.7% more compared to the first half of 2021.

Among the main trading partners, we have the highest import coverage by exports with Austria (163%), Slovenia (127%), Croatia (106%), Germany (95%), Serbia (83%), and Italy (66%).

In the first half of 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina exported the most to Croatia (1.34 billion KM), Germany (1.34 billion KM), Serbia (1.25 billion KM), Italy (1.07 billion KM), Austria (821 million KM), and
Slovenia (709 million KM), and imported the most from Italy (1.62 billion KM), Serbia (1.5 billion KM), Germany (1.41 billion KM), Croatia (1.27 billion KM), China (1.06 billion KM), and Turkey (845 million KM).
