Egypt calls on United Nations to intervene due to Israeli escalation in Lebanon

(Patria) - The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Monday for "international forces and the United Nations Security Council to intervene immediately" to stop the "dangerous Israeli escalation in Lebanon," AFP reported.

Cairo, a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, has repeatedly warned of the Israeli escalation, which it said on Monday "threatens to drag the region into a comprehensive regional war".

Egypt reiterated its "solidarity" with Lebanon and affirmed its "complete rejection of any violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and territory".

World powers have called on Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, who have been involved in cross-border clashes for months, to step back from the brink of all-out war.

Egypt said it "continues its efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza" in an attempt to restore peace.
