Egypt rejects Trump's proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza Strip

(Patria) - Egypt has rejected the plan to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and will not be part of any proposal in that direction.

This reaction from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed US President Donald Trump's announcement of a plan for the US to take over the enclave and resettle its population in neighboring countries.

Egypt, a country on the southern border of the Gaza Strip, condemned statements of support from the Israeli government for the plan of a US-controlled "Middle East Riviera" in the area of the now completely destroyed Palestinian enclave.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz yesterday ordered the army to prepare a plan for the "voluntary" departure of Gaza residents, Israeli media reported.

Likely referring to that order, the Egyptian ministry stated that "Egypt emphasizes the catastrophic consequences of an irresponsible act that threatens and will destroy truce negotiations and lead to the return of hostilities".

In January, Egypt, along with Qatar and the US, mediated a truce between Israel and Hamas, ending Israel's 15-month offensive in the enclave.

Talks on the second phase of the agreement were supposed to begin this week, Reuters reminds.

Earlier this week, the Republican stated that he wants to permanently resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan and remove the destroyed buildings to build a project resembling a "riviera" under US "ownership".
