Ef. Mahić: The most beautiful post-war Eid was marred by last night's murder of Bosniaks

The murder of two Bosniaks marred all the beauty of Eid. And, this Eid was the most beautiful of all post-war holidays, said Amir ef. Mahić, an imam from Kozarac, in a statement to the BH News Agency (NAP).

Two Bosniaks were murdered last night before midnight in a catering facility in Trnopolje. The attacker, who is still on the run, according to the police of Republika Srpska, fired a burst from an automatic rifle at Almir Redžić (48) and Muharem Balić (62), who were sitting in the catering facility “San“.

The motives for the murder are still unknown, but the residents of Kozarac suspect that it is a matter of inter-ethnic hatred.

Kozarac is a Bosniak town near Prijedor, where about 1,800 Bosniaks were killed during the Serbian aggression against BiH, and thousands more passed through the infamous Keraterm, Trnopolje, and Omarska camps. The majority of Kozarac residents now live and work abroad, and only come to Kozarac during their annual leave.

Ef. Mahić told Patria that Bosniaks in Kozarac want to believe that they are safe in this part of BiH and that they are equal to the Serbs there. Unfortunately, he says, inter-ethnic incidents that are reminiscent of the recent aggression often occur here, which spoil all the efforts of Bosniaks who strive to build coexistence in these areas.

- We cannot say that the recent murder of two Bosniaks is the result of inter-ethnic hatred, we cannot claim who did it, and what his motives were, but this event has certainly disturbed the Bosniaks – Mahić told Patria.
