Ef. Mahić: Džematlijas are already under RS police surveillance, and now we fear the situation will worsen

Zikrija Krkić from Prijedor did not admit to killing Muharem Balić and Almir Redžić on July 28 in Trnopolje, Amir ef. Mahić, chief imam of the Islamic community of Kozarac, confirmed to the Patria News Agency (NAP).

Many media outlets reported that Krkić confessed to the murders, but the truth is different. Although the suspect is in custody, returnees in Kozarac are now in even greater fear, especially since the suspect is allegedly a member of the Wahhabi movement. According to ef. Mahić, the džematlijas in this area have been under special police surveillance until now, and now they fear the situation will worsen.

- We have been under special surveillance until now, and it will surely be even worse from now on, because this certainly has deeper goals, regardless of what happened. We believe there are deeper connotations to this. It doesn't all look good to us – says ef. Mahić.

He added that their region has been unfairly blamed for everything and anything until now, so the returnees are afraid.

- We are not entirely sure about everything being said regarding this murder, but time will reveal the true story. Regardless of who the killer was, we expect a proper investigation and realistic and truthful information from the police. Regardless of what happened, a crime is a crime and it should not have been committed, and on the other hand, we fear that this will lead to even more difficult circumstances for the returnees than they already are – added ef. Mahić.
