(Patria) – The European Court of Justice has ruled that Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic violated EU law by refusing to accept refugees.
The ruling states that these countries refused to accept 120,000 migrants – the portion assigned to them from the total number that arrived in Italy and Greece within the framework of the European Council's 2015 program.
The Court also found Poland and the Czech Republic guilty of evading their obligations from an earlier Council decision concerning 40,000 migrants.
The European Council, which mainly consists of heads of government and state, adopted this decision in September 2015 when more than a million migrants, mainly from Syria and Iraq, arrived in Europe.
